Hdb Extends Rental Voucher Scheme Families Waiting Bto Flat Completion Dec 31

HDB has made an announcement regarding its voucher scheme that aims to assist young couples and families who are renting from the open market while waiting for their Build-to-Order (BTO) flats to be completed.

The Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS) was initially set to end in June, but HDB has extended it for another six months until December 31. This extension will provide interim support to eligible families by reimbursing them $300 per month to cover their rental expenses, as stated in a press release by HDB.

This extension is necessary to sustain assistance for eligible families until the supply of PPHS flats is fully increased to 4,000 units by the end of the year, a significant increase from the 800 units available in 2021. It is estimated that about 200 households will benefit from this extension, as mentioned by HDB.

To be eligible for the PPHS, families must meet certain criteria, including having booked an uncompleted flat from HDB’s sales exercise and a household income of $7,000 or below.

According to HDB, as the supply of PPHS flats has increased in recent years, the application rate has dropped significantly from over 20 in 2021 to around three currently. Since June 2023, all eligible applicants, including married couples with children aged 18 and below, expectant parents, have been invited to select a PPHS flat.
